Three day catch up:

Hey Everyone,

So it’s time to catch up on the last few days of this vacation. I’m sorry that I have not written more before, however I was rather tired, and could to even think of a sentence to type!  However, as its only 1600hrs in the afternoon, let’s se what I can do.

Disney Day One

So on Wednesday, we visited Disney.  This was my first time here ever. I’m amazed at the size of the place, as well as the organization. We drove in, and were within the park within about 20 minutes. They had people directing us into our packing spot, a Tram waiting, and friendly people directing us to the ticket gate.

We got the two-day park hopper pass. Apparently, this thing lets us go to which ever park we want to go to for two days. As well, there are several parks within the area. We decided to visit Hollywood studios and Magic Kingdom for our first day.

I am amazed at how friendly everyone is in this place. I don’t know what they drug their employees with, however, I’m sure that Disney has found the cure for depression! Now if only they could market it. Due to James’ arm, we didn’t really go on any rides and such, but did go through a lot of the exhibits. All the pictures that I was able to take were posted.

It really is a fun and happy place. Everything is geared around making sure that the guest has an enjoyable experience. Everyone waves, everyone will stop to talk with you, and everyone smiles. Even the food prices were not the inflated disgustingness that you would expect in a Theme park (take note Wonderland).

We did a couple tours of old studios, and watched a movie/ride on a lot of the old movies and stars. Movies like The Wizard of Oz, and Singing in the Rain. We also got to experience various presentations like stunts and such. They went through how all the stunts are performed.

On one of the presentations, James volunteered me for a “role.”  Little did I know that this role included me getting wet!  They marched me out onto the stage in rain boots and rain gear and got me to sit down.  When “action” came, they dumped liters and liters of water upon me.  For the next few hours, I walked around with a wet butt and shorts.

Thanks tor SPF 80, I managed not to become a lobster while at the park. I didn’t apply any to my face this day, so I got a little red, but nothing serious.

At the end of the day, there was a fireworks show that was amazing. As well, they projected images on to the castle of the pictures for the day and of the past.

At the end of the day, we got back into the car, and drove back to our condo, tired and exhausted.

Disney Day Two

For day two, we started off tired.  The previous day and sun took a lot out of us, especially me (I’m pale, what can I say?). However, we managed. We visited EPCOT and Animal Kingdom. I was kinda expecting more out of Animal Kingdom.  While we really didn’t go through and visit the whole park, it was somewhat lacking in the parts that we did visit.

While on the Safari drive, we expected that we would see more animals, however, I’m thinking, as it was the height of noon, they were off sleeping somewhere. We did manage to see several animals though, and several aquatic life.  I do enjoy that they were really trying to drive home the message of conservation and protecting the environment that we live in.

After lunch, we decided to go and visit EPCOT. I was amazed at the vision that Walt Disney had of the future.  While some of it has not come to pass (we’re still driving cars after all), it was amazing to see nonetheless.  As well, it was interesting in seeing the history.

We went over to “Tomorrow Land,” and the “Seas,” to view their exhibits. The aquatic area was really interesting, and also included a view into an active Vet OR. While there were not any patients in there, I’ve not spent much time in an OR specifically made for animals. There are a lot of similarities between the ones use for Humans, and those used for Animals, and some differences. I was really interested to learn that they perform surgery on fish life. To be honest, I did not think it was possible due to their physiology.

After finishing up in these areas, we took a walk over to the World Showcase.  Of course we had to visit the Canadian Showcase. While it was interesting, and they had real Canadians working there, I have to say that I do not own that much flannel. As well, we watched a video about Canada narrated by Martin Short. While they touched on most of the most interesting parts of Canada, I was surprised to see that Ottawa (our Capital) was not mentioned at all! I figured that if you were going to mention the major cities in Canada, you would want to mention Ottawa. Oh well.

We walked and viewed the other showcases that were there: France, Norway, UK, Italy, Morocco, Japan, China and Mexico.

In Italy, we stopped to have dinner.  I was a little put off that we could not get a seat inside. We were told that all the tables for two were all reserves and are always reserved.  I just figured that they would have set aside tables for walkups, but I guess not. Instead, we ate outside, which turned out to be ok as the sun was going down.

We did the exhibits for Norway and Mexico, and I was not overly impressed.  Not because of the country or something, but because of the quality of the presentation.  The Norway exhibit was more of a ride on a log flume, and the Mexico was a ride while watching a Disney movie(ish). Neither of them gave very much information or history into the country.

After all was said and done, another fireworks show was planned. Again, it was great!  Mark, you really should get a job down here in Pyro, you’d be busy all the time.

That brings us to today!

Sleep, Laze about and just plain relax!

Tonight, we’re going to go do the Gay club thing and just have fun, for tomorrow we start our trip back into town.

As far as moods, I’m feeling better and more relaxed.  I don’t have to go back to work until Friday, so that’s always good. As well, when I get back, I’ll get to see my friends and others and such, so that’s great!

Time to go relax

  1. Sounds like you had fun!

    Two notes to clarify:
while EPCOT retains the name of experimental community, it absolutely nothing like what Walt Disney planned. It was built many years after his death, and transformed into more of a theme park. If you had gone to the town of Celebration, Florida (which you drove by) you would have seen his true vision for the future...which sadly he got mostly right.

Second, the pavilions in EPCOT are mostly designed by the countries that they represent. It is basically a permanent World Exhibition. As a result, a lot of countries don't invest in renovating their showcases as often as they should.

Oh, and third :P Animal kingdom is best early morning and late afternoon. Noon everything goes to the shade until about 2pm.

And last, sounds like you guys had a good time. Wish I could have joined ya.
